A Serious Misstep By President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Bob at Mindanao blog has been reporting on an increasingly growing flow of stories reporting that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (of the Philippines) is getting ready to sign away at least a portion (that some speculate will lead to the whole of) of Mindanao to the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front)
Hmmmm. Well until now GMA has been a very crafty and tough political fighter. Many of the elected officials of Minanao support PGMA and have threatened Manila with secession if PGMA is ousted. Well, here we have PGMA cutting loose that support. Why should the officials from Mindanao support her now?
So if the leaders of Mindanao elect to stay in the Republic PGMA may just give them away to the MILF which Bob says is 80% Christian and those 80% are not going to sit still while the Sharia is imposed on them. In additon "other governments" (wink-wink) might be concnerned a tropical Afghanistan is being set up.
The alternative is to secede on their own terms.
Of course, this all could be disinformation being sown by those trying to bring PGMA down, but it does fit a pattern.
There is more news today in regards to the possibility that Mindanao will be carved into pieces and part given to the MILF as part of a peace agreement in the region.
As we reported on this blog two days ago, the Arroyo government had tentatively agreed with the MILF to give them a part of Mindanao as their own country. Well, today, reaction has started to appear in other media.
The Daily Journal has reaction from Zamboanga Mayor Celso Lobregat. Lobregat says that the entire region will be gobbled up once the first part is sliced up and given away, as is currently planned. Lobregat further says that Gloria Arroyo has a new policy of "Peace at all costs."
