Musical Blogging.

Owens at Boots & Sabers is blogging on musicals. It started of as a silly post and he is surprised to see it is attacting much comment.

Speaking of music some friends and myself worked to put on a show featuring The Univesity of Santo Tomas (UST) Singers. The UST is one of the oldest (they claim oldest) currently operating university in all of Asia. They also claim to be the world's largest centrally located Catholic University in the world. Anwyay, they have a professor of music Dr. Fidel Calalang Jr. who created a student choir that is absolutely first rate, they have won many awards for their singing.

As I said we hosted them last September 15, 2004 at Appleton North High School. The performance was fantastic and it was quite remarkable how talented they are. Unfortunately we were not able to draw a big crowd for them (lessons have been learned and noted) but they sold out a show in Milwaukee and had about 200 people or so show up in Madison. They sing a wide variety of music (and yes they can sing in English, if you want they can sing a songs in German, Spanish, Tagalog, Bisayan, Finnish for you) from sacred music, classical, spirituals, modern, pop, and show tunes. The choir tours every two years and I am in tight with the group that brings them to Wisconsin, so in 2006 you can be sure they will be in Appleton again. The chairman of the voice department from Lawrence University was present and was amazed too, so I am hoping we can get the LU Chapel this time and fill it up. Then 2008 we will try to get them into the PAC.

Anyway for more information about this choir please visit: UST Singers in Wisconsin or NEW Bayanihan. Hope to see you at the '06 show (or hope you want to join the BLACKBIRD team).
