The Road Trip.

This cartoon war reminds me of something most every parent has lived through.

Mom, Dad, their son Mike, and daughter Susie are driving to someplace. Something gets into Mike and he calls his sister a leftist. Mike notices that this deeply disturbs his sister so like any other normal brother he starts to taunt her with the leftist name.

Now, Mom and Dad are concentrating on the drive and the map so they pay little attention to what is going on. That is until Susie starts to get hysterical about being called a leftist. So what happens next?

Mom and Dad jack up both Mike and Susie. They say to Susie "Dear, grow up and ignore your brother remember 'sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me'". Of course, it doesn't stop with that. Mom and Dad then turn their attention to Mike. They tell Mike to grow up and stop teasing his sister. They may even warn one or both about what will happen if they have to stop the car.

In this case the cartoonists and those that publish those cartoons (yes, myself included) are Mike. The Muslims are playing the role of Susie. Who is playing the role of Mom and Dad? Simple, no one.
