Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

Paige Hopkins on Fox News was just moderating a discussion between a representative from the Democrats and one from the Republicans. The discussion was on embryonic stem cell research focusing on Bill Frist and his recent statement of support for the research.

The Dem rep made an incredible claim. She said people do not want men in Washington DC restricting research and getting in between them and their doctors.

Incredible. Claudia and I are going to be building a house. How dare a bunch of men in Washington DC prevent us from building that house! The Feds in DC are also restricing us from loading up on alternative energy! How dare they!

What is that you say? The Federal government does not stand in our way? Sure they do, they are not going to fund construction of our house and they will not purchase alternative energy sources for us!

Silly? Yes I agree. The Federal Government is not restricting embryonic stem cell research in the slightest. It may not be fully funding it, so? There are a lot of areas of study not being fully funded by any government or anyone.

States are choosing to fund the research on their own (this is called federalism and is in no way a jab at the President), private concerns are funding the research. The research is being done.

You know, I have little doubt we will learn from the research but at the moment the promoters of this research sound like snake oil salesmen who suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome.
