Calm Down!
The nomination of Harriet Miers has many right wingers close to unhinged.
Ann Coulter of all people is on Sean Hannity's show being elitist over this saying Ms. Mier did not attend a sufficient law school etc etc etc.
My God!
First off lets go back to the President's campaign. He talked about being a uniter not a fighter. So what do we expect? If you wanted someone to appoint in your face nominees why then did we not nominate someone such as Alan Keyes?
Two, Ann yeah you are right perhaps Ms. Miers did not attend top a top level law school, perhaps she did not clerk for years for a Supreme Court Justice, perhaps she is not the author of legal textbooks, perhaps she did not argue for hours and hours in front of the supreme court. So? If a leftist were doing this about someone (e.g. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg riding Tom DeLay for being a lowly bug exterminator) we would be screaming elitist with all our might.
What if she believes the constitution needs to be interpreted as written? What if she believes the laws should be interpreted as written? What if she believes contracts are to be interpreted as written? Isn't that what we want?
I think any lawyer of her accomplishments is quite capable of interpreting statutory law and contracts. I think anyone with a 12th grade reading ability is able to read and interpret the constitution. The important question is not their paper trail but their philosophy. Do they believe laws, contracts, and the constitution should be interpreted as written, should they be interpreted to original intent of the authors, or should they be interpreted according to the outcome one wants? It isn't that hard.
In all fairness Ms. Coulter is a lawyer and most people like to make their fields more complicated than what they are.
