People! At Least Learn To Use Image Processing!

Aaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhh!

I was just at a very worthy website. They had some pictures of the site's subject standing against a predominantly white banner and backlit. The woman who is the subject of the site is from the Congo and is yes quite dark skinned.

The camera with the lighting conditions set the exposure for the predominant lighting which was bright, so the window with the light is perhaps overexposed (big whoop), the banner is perfectly exposed and so too is the woman next to the subject (a mzungu). But you can not see any detail in the subject woman! Aaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!

People, you may not know how to get the exposure correct with your camera (if using digital though check it out and expose again with more exposure, learn how to use your camera) then learn to use the photo processing software on your PC! Usually you need to do two things and two things only, learn how to increase brightness and learn how to increase the contrast!

I may try to set up a little demonstration of what I am talking about in the near future and talk about exposure control.

Don't worry if you do this, many people do. One last point, I guess to be fair some monitors & systems may render the same photo differently so perhaps this may have something to do with it (however, I don't think this is the major factor in the majority of cases).
