FVR Linked to Coup Plots?

FVR refers to Fidel Villamor Ramos former president of the Philippines (IMO, the best one of the four they had since Marcos, best by far). Found the following reports in the Inq7

WARNING of repercussions on US-Philippine relations, former President Fidel V. Ramos last night challenged the United States to explain a US Embassy report linking him to a supposed planned coup against President Macapagal-Arroyo.

FVR is noted as stating:
"If the US Embassy here in Manila refuses to make any clarification of that nasty report, nasty to me personally but even nastier to the people of the Philippines, I challenge the person in charge of intelligence in Washington DC, and that is former Ambassador to the Philippines John Negroponte to override all of these subordinates of his in the US Embassy to come out with the truth of the matter"...

"Is there such a report? What is the content of the report?"

The Inq7 adds the following note:
According to the report, Ramos gave his former national security adviser, Jose Almonte, until June to implement the plan against Ms Arroyo.

Well, nothing has happened, June has come and gone the report they are talking about supposedly was dated February 24th so this is all history.

This followup Inq7 report however, notes that Malacañang (Malacañang is the Filipino equivalent to our Whitehouse) publicly dismisses such reports.

FWIW, I too dismiss the report and I would not be surprised, if this were disinformation from Gloria's opposition working to split FVR & GMA (he has stood up with her in this crisis). We all know when it comes to such matters the US government is not into denial or confirmation.

July 21, 2009 -- The V in Fidel V Ramos is for Valdez, not Villamor as I write above.
