Scientists drilling into the glaciers of Greenland are discovering a warmer Earth. That is, the Earth was warmer in the past than it is even now.

Scientists who probed two kilometers (1.2 miles) through a Greenland glacier to recover the oldest plant DNA on record said Thursday the planet was far warmer hundreds of thousands of years ago than is generally believed.

DNA of trees, plants and insects including butterflies and spiders from beneath the southern Greenland glacier was estimated to date to 450,000 to 900,000 years ago, according to the remnants retrieved from this long-vanished boreal forest.

That contrasts sharply with the prevailing view that a lush forest of this kind could only have existed in Greenland as recently as 2.4 million years ago, according to a summary of the study, which is published Thursday in the journal Science.

The samples suggest the temperature probably reached 10 degrees C (50 degrees Fahrenheit) in the summer and -17 C (1 F) in the winter.

They also indicated that during the last period between ice ages, 116,000-130,000 years ago, when temperatures were on average 5 C (9 F) higher than now, the glaciers on Greenland did not completely melt away.

Fair enough. But thousands of Americans also buy Chevy Suburbans for personal convenience (large families, cargo needs, a boat towing, etc.). Yet, under the senator's restrictive fuel mandate, consumers could well lose the choice of vehicles like the Suburban.

I see lots of dumb and stupid items every day. I almost go crazy when I see rotating hubcaps and had I the power I would be very tempted to decree them as banned, but I do not have the power nor would it be right. In fact, the thought always ends that way – that it would be wrong.

Yet another example of the arrogance of those in positions of political power. Harry Reid and the rest in Congress deserve their unpopularity.

When is the Baseline?

I have a question for those pushing global warming doom and gloom.

In which year did our climate perfect occur? What is your baseline, any deviation from which is improper? 1967? 1981? 1985?

The earth's climate has varied widely and wildly through the ages.

Global Warming is Worse Than I Thought

Yes it is. In fact, it's so bad it is spreading from our Earth to Mars! Think of it, the damage we humans are doing is so bad & extensive it's spreading throughout the solar system:

According to a September 20 NASA news release, "for three Mars summers in a row, deposits of frozen carbon dioxide near Mars' south pole have shrunk from the previous year's size, suggesting a climate change in progress." Because a Martian year is approximately twice as long as an Earth year, the shrinking of the Martian polar ice cap has been ongoing for at least six Earth years.

The shrinking is substantial. According to Michael Malin, principal investigator for the Mars Orbiter Camera, the polar ice cap is shrinking at "a prodigious rate."

"The images, documenting changes from 1999 to 2005, suggest the climate on Mars is presently warmer, and perhaps getting warmer still, than it was several decades or centuries ago," reported Yahoo News on September 20.
