Another Fisking.

Yet another letter to fisk.

Comparisons invite dissent, rebuttals

In Peter Hagen’s July 29 letter, he suggests that non-right-wingers donÂ’t appreciate the comparisons of Karl Rove vs. Watergate, Iraq vs. Vietnam and whether Judge Roberts should or should not discuss his personal views.

Hagen says Rove isn’t Watergate. This is correct only because the politicians involved in Watergate were brought to justice. They were made to pay for their lies, deceit and cover-up. Rove has not.

Sigh. What has been revealed to date does not indicate any crime has been committed, much less a crime by Karl Rove. I know, many on the left cling to this myth about KR harder than a fundie clings onto Creationism.

Second, Iraq is not Vietnam. Perhaps. Although there are many, many similiarities. In both wars, we have killed, we have maimed and we have soiled our U.S. reputation. We Americans, in both wars, have killed illegally, wantonly and out of greed.

Finally, as to the personal views of Judge Roberts. It’s not about him. It’s about the character of our dubious president.

Yeah yeah yeah. Saddam was a wonderful guy. Iraq is a better place than it was under Saddam, less than perfect but getting better.

Ahhhh, I really like the second statement. It seems President Bush could nominate Lawernce Tribe or Alan Dershowitz and the left would be up in arms about the nominee. It really isn't about the nominee but it is about President Bush.

As to Hagen’s attempts at trashing liberalism, I guess I feel sorry that some people can’t make use of truth and the real facts.

Progressives and liberals have fought for personal freedom, rights and, yes, programs, to enrich the sense of fairness that we enjoy in the U.S. today. I stand and have fought for the rights of those I disagree with.

Mr. Cummings, you are NOT A LIBERAL you are ILLIBERAL you are a leftist. The left opposes liberty.

Daily, I put up with right-wing, bootstrap, spank-your-children and secure-a-dollar-at-any-cost conservatives. Unfortunately, many conservatives follow the rule of law, not the rules of morality. Too many of our laws fall way short of being moral standards to live by.

Gary Cummings,

Menasha

Ignorance ignorance ignorance. Why talk about morality? The left is constantly fights against and redefines morality.
