Think Twice Before Usurping GMA!
The Philippine News brings a set of interesting stories. However, the most interesting is a declaration by the powers down in Mindanao that they will secede if GMA is ousted from her presidential office!
In fact Mindanao is already preparing the things they need just in case. In addition Davao City is considering declaring itself its own republic.
Mindanao as it turns out has been down this road in the past and in fact if the leadership of Mindanao decided to bolt from the Philippines, Malacañang (the Presidential palace) would have a bear of a time stopping it. At the moment Malacañang can barely contain an Islamic insurgency in Mindanao and I am sure the Moros (as the Muslims in the Philippines are referred to) would at least briefly unite with other forces working to break from Manila.
In a separate but related story from the same edition of the Philippine News Online there is talk of an assassination plot.
Shame on you Ms. Aquino. Your husband, an opponent of Marcos, was murdered by the Marcos regime now you stoop to the tactics of Marcos. Shame-shame-shame!
Heaven help the Philippines if that incompetent woman (Corazon Aquino) once again gains control or even partial control over the Presidency of the Philippines.
In early June, when it seemed that the growing calls for President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to resign had reached critical mass and that an "Edsa 3" was imminent, proponents of an independent Mindanao seriously considered breaking away from the Republic of the Philippines the moment Mrs. Arroyo was removed from Malacanang.

So say the non-believers. But the plot to unseat President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, led by former president Corazon Aquino and Senate President Franklin Drilon, is for real, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago alleged on Monday.
In her first privilege speech after some years, Santiago not only stood by the claim she made over the weekend -- that Drilon and Aquino were plotting to remove Mrs. Arroyo by the middle of this month by force, if necessary -- but also named the source of her story.
Santiago pointed to Susie Calvo-Sevilla, the sister of Drilon's late first wife Violy, as having spoken of the plot during a recent gathering of a non-governmental organization.
Drilon's sister-in-law said former president Aquino had even bragged of her contacts with the military who would support the oust-Arroyo move "at all cost."
