A Call!

From today's Appleton Post Crescent.
THANKS, BAN LEADERS: I am one of the more than 9,700 voters who would like to thank Connie Olson, Appleton Ald. Shiloh Ramos and Stevie Schmidt for having the courage and thoughtfulness to pursue the 100 percent workplace smoking ban in Appleton. This is not a rights issue. It is a health issue. If smokers want to continue to smoke, that is their choice, but please respect the health of your families, friends and coworkers etc. by smoking outdoors. My mother died of secondhand smoke. She never smoked a cigarette in her entire life.

Larry Medema,

Appleton

Yes Larry, it is a matter of private property rights.

I am very sorry about your mother, but you know what? Lung cancer's sole cause is not cigarette smoke. You a population and completely isolate them from tobacco smoke and the incidence of lung cancer will NOT drop to 0, grant you it will drop but not to 0. Your contention that your mother was killed by secondhand smoke is unsupportable.
