Hmmmm.

Found in the Monday April 11 edition of the Appleton Post Crescent:
Spend security money on more cops, not toys

I’m sure you heard about Homeland Security allocating $1 million-plus to area law enforcement. Brown County proudly showed off its new equipment on TV shortly thereafter, including a new high-tech robot that will be used to remove weapons of mass destruction — from where, I don’t know. Lambeau Field in Green Bay? Hillshire Farms in New London? The Twist in Greenville?

Another law-enforcement agency had its officers’ badges upgraded, costing thousands of dollars. They now have a barcode for scanning in when they are at the scene of an accident, or maybe the scene at which the robot is removing a weapon of mass destruction.

I suppose we need to know the whereabouts of our police officers, even though I thought this profession prided itself on honesty and trust.

The best way to spend this unexpected cash is to hire more law enforcement officers at the state and county level.

How many times have you traveled on U.S. 41, only to be tailgated because you are going the speed limit?

What are the chances of getting hit by a drunken driver on the road or getting hit by someone driving their two-ton SUV too fast for conditions? How many law enforcement cars do you see on the road you drive every day? That’s what I thought.

The only time you see patrol is when there is an accident on the road, and then you see all four of them.

Just an FYI: If you are traveling to Hortonville via State 45 and the traffic is at an 80 mph crawl, take County JJ or School Road.

Just make sure you watch out for the inconveniences, like people walking or jogging on the road, or the children riding their bicycles to the Twist.

Appleton

Hmmmm is right. I find myself agreeing with some points, rolling my eyes on others. For example:

I agree with the former point and roll my eyes on the later point. An upgrade in badge security is a good thing and that is what the barcode is for not for scanning in when reporting to an accident. The theft of officer badges happens and is reason for concern and steps to improve badge security are worth the effort.

The rest of the note reads like it comes from a cranky 78 year old leftist woman.
