O'Reilly on the DPW Deal.

I just saw Bill O'Reilly discuss the DPW disaster with Walid Phares. As (think) I have said I am at best a marginal fan of Bill O'Reilly most of his stands IMO seem to be rooted more in populism than anything else.

Well, his views on the DPW Deal are not populist.

One thing about this whole deal is it is amazing how clueless the underlings who vetted the deal that they were completely blindsided by the uproar. This was something that needed Presidential attention way before it became public news, why these underlings didn't get it up to at least the cabinet level is amazing.

I do not think the Presidential threat of a veto helped. Quite a few conservatives where flabbergasted the President finally noticed his veto power. I think people were amazed he would sign many of the bills he did (McCain-Feingold for one, all the lard-dripping budget bills etc) and then on this actually threaten a veto. He handled it very poorly and his administration did not do much better.

However, the opponents of the DPW deal are not all that impressive either. Walid Phares suggested a major part of the problem people have with it is they don't recognize the divisions within Islam. That there is a difference between Al-Qaida and Dubai. I think he is right.

If you ever get a chance to visit Dubai take it and while there take day trips to: Al-Ain, Abu Dhabi and perhaps a weekend trip to Fujairah or Khorfakhan.
